NIB colleagues on saturday's demonstrations

On Saturday, 17.11.2012, members and supporters of NIB's unit of Education, Science and Culture Trade Union in Slovenia (SVIZ) supported the demonstrations »ZA Solidarno Slovenijo!« (FOR a solidary Slovenia!).

On Saturday, 17.11.2012, members and supporters of NIB's unit of Education, Science and Culture Trade Union in Slovenia (SVIZ) supported the demonstrations »ZA Solidarno Slovenijo!« (FOR a solidary Slovenia!) and were thus a part of tens of thousands of other protesters. With our presence we loudly and clearly expressed our disapproval of the austerity measures in the public sector, leading to a substantial reduction in science and education sources. Such measures may lead to long-term absence of Slovenian scientists from the centers of scientific developments. The announced cut of resources can result in staff reductions, prevention of a smooth scientific research and progress, the reduced possibilities for international travel, meetings, workshops and collaboration. This can, due to the small size of our research area, be a tragedy, leading to the so called escape of brains abroad. We do not want to allow that excellent individuals would be forced to leave the country after being invested into for over 20 years. Slovenian scientists are known for our commitment, diligence, our good analytical thinking and investment we take in order to enhance the team spirit. Therefore, by our presence on the Saturday demonstrations, we stand against any dark future for the Slovenian science.

Events like this are also a good opportunity in order to strengthen ties between colleagues and to discuss in a more relaxed spirit. Therefore we completed Saturday's event in a more informal manner.
