GMOseek: Better control of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) for an improved European food safety
GMOseek is a European project led by NIB and dedicated to the improvement of food safety. The German Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL, Germany) and the Food Standard Agency (FSA, UK) fund this project that is part of the ERANET SAFEFOODERA consortium. GMOseek started in June 2009 and is planned to end in June 2011.
 
Research work on grapevine yellows phytoplasma
Research on phytoplasma at the Department of Biotechnology and Systems Biology started in the 1990s. At the beginning efforts were focused into setting up molecular biology detection techniques for efficient control over the phytosatinary status of grapevine yellows, a disease caused by phytoplasma on grapevine.
 
Since November 2006 an international project “Systems Biology Tools Development for Cell Therapy and Drug Development– SYSTHER” is underway at National Institute of Biology
Slovenian Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology together with German Federal Ministry of Education and Research started to co-finance Slovenian-German virtual institute that is working in the field of medical biotechnology in November 2006. Virtual institute is actually a five-year project “Systems Biology Tools Development for Cell Therapy and Drug Development” – SYSTHER within the INREMOS program (Industrially Relevant Molecular Life).
