NIB has the public authorization of the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning (valid until 2017) for the implementation of the National Water Quality Monitoring, for the biological element phytoplankton, which is an important element in determining the ecological status of rivers and its parts.

A full analysis, including field work (taking samples) and taxonomic assessment of periphyton and calculations of trophic index (TI), saprobic index (SI) and the ecological quality ratio (EQR).

We have a certificate "External Quality Assessment Trials in phytobenthos" (EQAT) obtained every two years from "Landestalsperrenverwaltung des Freistaates Sachsen" (LTV) and The "Arbeitsgemeinschaft Trinkwassertalsperren eV" (ATT).

We also produce images of phytobenthic diatoms with a scanning electron microscope (SEM).
