Plant protection society of Slovenia awarded prof. dr. Maja Ravnikar with the silver medal for special contributions in the field of plant protection 

Silver medals for special contributions in the field of plant protection were presented on the 12-th Slovenian conference on plant protection with international participation, held at Ptuj, 3. – 4. March 2015, organized by Plant protection society of Slovenia. Among the awarded was prof. dr. Maja Ravnikar, from National institute of biology.

The prize was awarded to prof. dr. Maja Ravnikar for her noticeable work in the field of plant protection in Slovenia and in the frame of Slovenian Society of Plant Health. As the head of the Department of biotechnology and systems biology at National institute of biology she has been researching plant to pest interactions and improving and inventing new methods for phytodiagnostics. Her group has been focusing on the development of diagnostic methods for plant pathogenic bacteria, phytoplasmas and viruses. She has also been the head of phytodiagnostic activities for the needs of Slovenian regulatory bodies. Her research group has established great connections and cooperation with the industry ranging from biotechnological applications, phytodiagnostics and detection of genetically modified organisms.
