The investment in the Biotechnological Juncture of the National Institute of Biology (BTS –NIB) in the amount of 20,777,441.24 EUR will mean an important national and regional strengthening of the research infrastructure in the field of biotechnology and the sciences on life. The project will be co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund and the Republic of Slovenia in accordance with the Operational Programme for the Implementation of the EU Cohesion Policy in the period 2014 – 2020. In the time of climate crisis and substantial climate changes, diminishment of biodiversity, and spreading plant and human viruses, in the time when clean environment and preserving clean water represents a challenge for Slovenia also, the research and the scientific work of the NIB is really crucially important. They are important for Slovenia, for the region we belong to, and, of course, globally. This investment will place the BTS –NIB among the regional centers of development in the field of biotechnology, biology, and the related sciences. We are proud and pleased that we realized this project!”

Matjaž Kuntner, the director of the NIB added: “The NIB will gain modern premises with this infrastructure where our distinguished and renowned research teams will be able to develop top science even more eagerly and, at the same time, realize the connection of the basic sciences on life with different stakeholders in the applicative fields of biotechnology, pharmacy, protection of the environment, and human health. We wish to create a stimulating scientific juncture which will be attractive also for the researchers from the abroad, especially young Slovenian talents who would wish to come back to their homeland.”
