There are roughly 120 people employed at the National Institute of Biology. Approximately one half of these are researchers with doctor's degree.
The NIB as an interdisciplinary research institution employs mostly biologists as well as chemists, physicists and mathematicians enabling us to perform complex research.

On Wednesday, 6th June 2011, on Biotehcnical Faculty, University of Ljubljana, Urška Čepin defended her doctoral thesis entitled »Genetic variability and detection of Grapevine Fanleaf Virus« in the field of biotechnology. Her supervisor was prof. dr. Maja Ravnikar and her co-supervisor doc. dr. Maruša Pompe Novak.
