The Institute consists of five research departments and the management administrative unit. Five departments are located in Ljubljana, at the registered office of the NIB in the Biological Centre, and one in Piran. Departments are relatively independent as regards programmes, human resources and finance and have their own science and business strategies and basic objectives. The science policy of the NIB tends to link the departments and looks for synergies in activities at home and abroad.

Ph.D. of the month
Urška Čepin
On Wednesday, 6th June 2011, on Biotehcnical Faculty, University of Ljubljana, Urška Čepin defended her doctoral thesis entitled »Genetic variability and detection of Grapevine Fanleaf Virus« in the field of biotechnology. Her supervisor was prof. dr. Maja Ravnikar and her co-supervisor doc. dr. Maruša Pompe Novak.
