National Institute of Biology (NIB) is authorized by the Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Food Safety, Veterinary Sector and Plant Protection (UVHVVR) as official laboratory for performing analyses of plant pests, such as bacteria, phytoplasmas, viruses and viroids. UVHVVR has nominated NIB also to perform tasks of National reference laboratory (NRL) for plant pathogenic bacteria and for leading the consortium of NRL for viruses, viroids and phytoplasmas (partners in consortium: Agricultural Institute of Slovenia, Slovenian Institute of Hop Research and Brewing) (more info: https://www.gov.si/teme/laboratoriji-za-skodljive-organizme-rastlin/ and https://nrl-virologija.si/en/). NIB has been nominated also as a partner in two European Union Reference Laboratories (EURL): EURL for bacteriology (leading by NWVA from the Netherlands; partners: CREA from Italy, ILVO from Belgium, NIB) and EURL for viruses, viroids and phytoplasmas (leading by NWVA from the Netherlands; partners: CREA from Italy, NIB) (more info: https://eurlplanthealth.pleio.nl/).
