The National Institute of Biology, Department of Biotechnology and Systems Biology has several years of experience with detection of genetically modified organisms ( GMOs). High level of expert knowledge has been gained during several years of research in the field of plant biotechnology and analysing plant genome. The National Institute of Biology is the member of the European network of GMO laboratories (ENGL).

The National Institute of Biology, Department of Biotechnology and Systems Biology is accredited by Slovenian accreditation for qualitative and quantitative testing of genetically modified organisms Reg. No. LP-028 (the scope of accreditation is partially flexible). The accreditation was granted for detection of genetically modified organisms and their products in foodstuffs and agricultural products of plant origin.
