Meta Virant-Doberlet is Head of the Department of Organisms and Ecosystems Research at the National Institute of Biology, and Associate Professor of Ethology at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. During her PhD studies, she received scholarships of Slovenian Research Council and Max-Planck Society to obtain research experience at the Max-Planck Institute for Behavioural Physiology in Seewiesen, Germany (1989-1992). She was also awarded Marie Curie Fellowship to carry out research at Cardiff University, UK (2006-2008).

She collaborated on over 40 national and international research projects. Her research expertise is insect vibrational communication.

She authored more than 70 papers and monograph chapters with more than 1900 citations and has h-index 24.

Awards:

  • »IOBC Exceptional Merit Award« (2019) for her seminal role in development of new sustainable pest control tools
  • »Miroslav Zei award for outstanding achievements« (2016) in the fields of research by National Institute of Biology
  • »Insect Drummer Lifetime Achievement Award« (2015) for exceptional research achievements in the field of vibrational communication
