Dr. Irena Bertoncelj EX_EMPLOYEES

Working place: Research Assistant

Department: Department of Organisms and Ecosystems Research

Education:

  • PhD studies: University of East Anglia (UEA), School of Environmental Sciences, Norwich, Great Britain. PhD thesis title: Spatial Dynamics of Ground Beetle (Coleoptera: Carabidae) Assemblage in a Forest and Open Habitat Mosaic Landscape (2010).
  • BSc Biology: University of Ljubljana, Biotechnical Faculty, Department of Biology, Ljubljana, Slovenia. Thesis title: Hybridization between geographically isolated populations of Nezara viridula as a possible method of biological control. (2003).

Research interests:

  • Nature conservation
  • Animal ecology
  • Spatial and temporal population dynamics
  • Population monitoring
  • Ecosystem services
I am interested in all topics related to nature conservation from ecology, population dynamics and their monitoring to ecosystem services. For successful longer conservation it is of course necessary to obtain cooperation of local stakeholders and wider public. I work on projects which combine all these issues in order to reach conservation goals: comparison of raptor monitoring on European level, monitoring of beetle populations in Slovenia, conservation of wolf in Slovenia, protection of high alpine lakes in Slovenia etc.
