NIB and Slovenian Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning organized a workshop "Genetically modified organisms – from seeds to shelves"

In the organization of National Institute of Biology and Slovenian Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning (MESP), 14th of December, a workshop “Genetically modified organisms – from seeds to shelves” was organized. The workshop was dedicated to new information on genetically modified organisms (GMOs), theirs legislation and detection. Representatives of Ministries and inspection services presented current EU regulations on GMOs and new technologies from Slovenian perspective.

National Institute of Biology is National reference laboratory for detection of GMOs. Lecturers presented current activities of NIB, general novelties in GMOs, among them on genom editing by Crisper cas and highthroughput sequencing.

The workshop brought together representatives of Slovenian MESP, Ministry of agriculture, forest and food, Administration RS for food safety, veterinary and plant protection. The workshop was also opportunity to discuss the official control on GMOs in Slovenia and future perspectives.
