Invitation to the lecture

"Mesenchymal stem cells and breast cancer"

by  Prof. Dr. Jürgen Dittmer,

from Klinik und Poliklinik für Gynäkologie
am Universitätsklinikum Halle (Saale), Germany

Thursday 9.12.2010 at 14.00

National Institut of Biology, Večna pot 111, 1000 Ljubljana.
Lecture hall B3.

Lecture will be held in English:

One kind of stem cells, the mesenchymal stem cells, designated for tissue repair have been shown to enter cancer tissue and support cancer progression. They may serve breast cancer cells by stimulating their motility, a process that requires E-cadherin depending cell-cell adhesion to be disrupted. They are also able to modulate drug responses of cancer cells. To some extent carcinoma-associated fibroblasts which can derive from mesenchymal stem cells show similar activities.

Kindly invited!
