The work is mainly focused on the study of local flora and fauna, ecological research on environmental pollution and interdisciplinary coastal water research. The station consists of 39 people; scientists, tehnicians and administratitve staff who combine research work and application-oriented solution with the aim of a better understanding of the marine ecosystem. Besides basic and applied research, they also give lectures on biodiversity, marine phytoplankton, microbial ecology, coastal oceanography and meiofauna. For many years Marine Biology Station has been visited by educational institutions from all over the world, especially from Germany, Italy, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Croatia, Austria, Belgium and the United States of America.
