BIODIVERZITETA BIOGENIH FORMACIJ
Zakladnica slovenskega morja

prof. dr. Lovrenc Lipej, dr. Martina Orlando - Bonaca, dr. Valentina Pitacco in dr.

KNIGHTS, BALLERINAS AND INVISIBLES

An international lot of researchers has been gathering for several years on the islands of the National Park of Brijuni gathering information on its underwater biodiversity. One of the focuses was set on decapod crustaceans. The quite compelling results gathered during these expeditions and numerous underwater photos of the species “in the wild” are the basis of this book.

On 123 pages over 100 decapod species that were observed at Brijuni are presented with morphological descriptions and photographs that can be used for determination of species. But the idea behind this book, however, is not primarily scientific. It is for anyone interested in the marvels of the underwater life to present them these magnificent animals, their fascinating body architecture, their colours and their multitude of wonderful life habits and survival tricks - and of course about their beauty. In an expressive language with the support of colourful photos fascinating stories are told about heavily armed underwater knights, flamboyant ballet dancers and almost perfectly masked, shadowy ghosts of the Brijuni underwater world.

The money gathered from the book selling will be used for further explorations of natural underwater heritage of the National Park of Brijuni and its safeguarding.

The book can be bought for 20 euros by sending mail to: infombp@nib.si
